What counts as a connector

Your connector count is the total of three things:

  • Team Members (Active Users) — any user with login access to your team counts as 1 connector

  • Added Connectors (Passive Connectors) — LinkedIn Profiles added manually or imported by Network Mapper

  • Pending invitations — invited users count toward your limit until the invitation is revoked

When you're at 80% of your connector limit, you'll see a warning. At 100%, adding new connectors is blocked until you upgrade or remove existing ones.

API credits

API credits are the currency for enriching your network with external data.

You spend them whenever The Swarm fetches profile or company information from outside sources, or when the Network Mapper discovers new connections for your team.

Browsing and searching within The Swarm Webapp (via app.theswarm.com) is always free — credits are only consumed when data is actively retrieved from external APIs endpoints on your behalf.

Search queries

Free — no credits consumed

  • A single request can return multiple results, and each result counts individually. For example, fetching 10 profiles in one query uses 10 credits.

  • Credits are included in your plan on a monthly or yearly basis (matching your billing interval) and reset at the start of each new cycle

  • They do not roll over. If you are on a yearly plan, you receive 12× the monthly credit allowance for the year — you can spend the full year's allocation in a single month if needed, and overages will be billed at your plan's per-credit rate for anything beyond that total.

If you use more credits than your plan includes, overages are billed at your plan's per-credit rate at the end of the billing period.

Example: a Premium plan team ($99/mo) who uses 1,500 credits in a month would pay $99 (as for the subscribtion) + 500 credits overage × $0.10 = $149 that month.

Upgrading & Downgrading

Upgrading

  • You can upgrade to any higher plan at any time.

  • The change takes effect immediately and you'll only be charged a prorated fee for the remaining days on your new plan.

  • Any API credits used beyond your current plan's limit will be billed at your current plan's overage rate at the end of your billing cycle, as usual — upgrading mid-cycle does not affect how overages are calculated or when they're charged.

Downgrading

You can request a downgrade to a lower-tier plan at any time. The change is scheduled to take effect at the end of your current billing cycle — you keep full access to your current plan until then, and no partial refunds are issued.

If your current connector count exceeds the limit of the plan you're moving to, you won't be able to add new connectors once the downgrade takes effect.

To re-enable adding connectors, go to the Connectors page and remove enough connectors to fall below your new plan's limit.

  1. Select your target plan. The system will show your current connector count and the new plan's limit.

  2. Confirm the downgrade. It will be scheduled for the end of your current billing cycle.

  3. Once the new plan is active, if you're over the limit, adding connectors will be blocked. Go to the Connectors page and remove connectors until your count is below the new plan limit.

Switching to the Free plan

You can switch to the Free plan at any time. However, if your connector count exceeds 10, adding new connectors will be blocked until you reduce your count to 10 or below. Go to the Connectors page to remove connectors at any time.

Keep in mind that the Free plan does not include API access or CSV exports — these features will no longer be available once you switch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my trial automatically convert to a paid plan?

No. Your trial expires after 14 days and your account moves to an expired (read-only) state. You choose a plan to restore access — nothing is charged automatically.

What happens to my data when my trial expires?

Your data is preserved. You can still access your connectors list to manage it. Once you select a plan and complete payment, full access is restored immediately.

Can I generate API keys on the Free plan?

No. API key generation and CSV exports are available on all paid Premium plans and during the free Trial. They are not available on the Free ($0) plan.

What happens if I run out of API credits mid-month?

API usage continues uninterrupted. Credits beyond your plan's included amount are billed as overages at your plan's per-credit rate, consolidated into your end-of-month invoice.

Do unused API credits roll over to next month?

No. Credits reset at the start of each billing cycle. Unused credits do not carry forward.

Does revoking an invitation free up a connector slot?

Yes. Pending invitations count toward your connector total. Revoking an invitation immediately reduces your count.

I want to cancel. What happens to my subscription?

You can cancel at any time from the Billing page. Your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period, after which your account moves to the expired state.

I need more than 2,000 connectors. What are my options?

Contact us about an Enterprise plan. Enterprise includes custom connector limits, API credits, and overage rates tailored to your team's needs.
