Incorrect Number of Imported Connections from LinkedIn via Chrome Extension

If you notice that the number of connections imported to The Swarm doesn't match your LinkedIn connections.

Common Causes and Solutions

1. Synchronization Issues

Sync Stopped or Froze

Sometimes the synchronization process can get interrupted or freeze during import.

Solution: Force a resync by:

  • Opening LinkedIn with The Swarm Chrome Extension enabled

  • Click on The Swarm extension icon

  • Go to the "Settings" tab

  • Click the "Resync" button next to your LinkedIn connections count

2. Sync Still in Progress

Large Connection Lists Take Time If you have a large number of LinkedIn connections, the import process can take several minutes to complete. We first fetch all your connections, then enrich each profile by looking for relationships and calculating Connection Strength scores.

Solution:

  • Be patient and wait a few minutes for the process to complete

  • Check back on your connections list after some time

  • The sync happens in the background, so you can continue using other features

3. Profile Availability Issues

Missing or Private Profiles The most common reason for number discrepancies is that some LinkedIn profiles are no longer available in our database.

This happens when:

  • Profiles have been removed from LinkedIn

  • Users have changed their privacy settings to private

  • LinkedIn accounts are inactive or "dead" accounts

  • LinkedIn's connection counter includes profiles that are no longer publicly accessible

Note: LinkedIn doesn't always update connection counts immediately when profiles become unavailable, which can create temporary mismatches.

4. Technical Requirements

For the Chrome Extension to work properly:

  • Keep both The Swarm web app and LinkedIn open during sync

  • Ensure the Chrome Extension is enabled on LinkedIn pages

  • Make sure you're logged into both platforms

Automatic Syncing

The Swarm automatically resyncs your LinkedIn connections once a week when the Chrome Extension is active, so your connection list stays up to date.

How to Check Your Import Status

In Chrome Extension:

  1. Open LinkedIn

  2. Click The Swarm extension icon

  3. Go to "Settings" tab

  4. View your LinkedIn connections count and last sync time

In The Swarm Web App:

  1. Use the "Import Source" filter

  2. Select "LinkedIn (via extension)" to see your imported connections

Still Having Issues?

If you've tried the steps above and your connection counts still don't match:

  1. Check your LinkedIn connection count - Compare it with what's shown in The Swarm

  2. Try the Resync button in the Chrome Extension settings

  3. Wait a few minutes for the sync to complete if you have many connections

  4. Contact support with your LinkedIn connection count for further investigation

Remember, small discrepancies (usually 1-3% of LinkedIn connections) are normal due to privacy settings and inactive profiles, but significant differences warrant a closer look.
